NSE stock index hits new high

India's 50-issue NSE index rose to a record high of 4,306.75 points on Thursday, boosted by strong economic growth data and a rebound in Asian markets.
At 3:19 p.m., the index was up 1.26 percent at 4,303.35. Its previous all-time high was 4,301.60 hit on Wednesday.
The benchmark BSE 30-share index was up 1.12 percent at 14,572.33. It hit a record high of 14,723.88 on Feb. 9.

UB Group spreads wings with Air Deccan stake

The deal, struck at 5.5 billion rupees, values Deccan Aviation at about 21 billion rupees.
Deccan will issue about 35 million shares at 155 rupees each to United Breweries (Holdings) -- an 18 percent premium to Deccan's closing price of 131.05 rupees on Wednesday.
The deal was announced after market hours on Thursday, but news reports earlier in the day sparked a rally in Deccan shares and also some smaller rivals. Deccan shares rose 11.6 percent and United Breweries (Holdings) rose 10 percent.The United Breweries-Deccan deal follows the just completed merger of state-run Air India and Indian Airlines, and Jet Airways Ltd's acquisition of smaller rival Air Sahara in April.

STOCKS THAT MOVED

* Deccan Aviation Ltd., which runs budget carrier Air Deccan, rose 11.6 percent to 146.20 rupees after television channels reported it had sold 26 percent stake to rival Kingfisher Airlines at 150 rupees a share.
United Breweries (Holdings) Ltd., the parent of Kingfisher Airlines, jumped 10 percent to 683.80 rupees.
Stocks of rival airlines also rose sharply after the news. SpiceJet Ltd. ended up 20.7 percent, while Jagson Airlines rose 9.4 percent.
* SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd. rose 20 percent to 71.80 rupees after the financial services firm said it had formed an equal joint venture with a unit of France's BNP Paribas for infrastructure equipment financing.
