* Elder Pharmaceuticals (ELDP.BO) rose as much as 4.94 percent at 338.85 rupees after the Financial Express newspaper reported that the firm is in talks with U.S.-based private equity firm, TA Associates, to dilute a minority stake as part of its fund raising plans. Shares later eased to be up 2.2 percent at 330 rupees.
* Oil firms rose more than 2 percent in early trade after the government issued 103.06 billion rupees of bonds to the companies as partial compensation for selling fuel at state-set prices.
Shares of Indian Oil Corp (IOC.BO) were up 1.58 percent at 656 rupees, Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL.BO) up 1.55 percent to 410 rupees and Bharat Petroleum Corp (BPCL.BO) at 580 rupees, up 1.73 percent.
* Engines maker Cummins India (CUMM.BO) fell as much as 4.2 percent to 352.05 rupees after it said workers at its Pune production facility went on strike from Sept. 15 demanding re-opening of a six-month-old wage agreement.
Shares later recovered to 360 rupees, down 2.04 percent.
