India shares rise 1.9 pct, underpinned by Asia, Fri Nov 30
STOCKS THAT MOVED

* Tata Steel put on nearly 3 percent to 825.70 rupees after its managing director told Reuters the company would seek more joint ventures with Australian mining firms as it can not supply enough of its own raw materials as its steel making capabilities soar.

* Largest listed real estate firm DLF Ltd ended up 7 percent at 943.90 rupees, its highest closing level in almost two weeks. Shares of property firms have been in focus after Maharashtra, India's richest state, on Thursday scrapped a law that controlled urban land holdings, potentially freeing up large tracts of prime real estate in the financial hub of Mumbai.

* Punj Lloyd Ltd gained 7.4 percent to 509.95 rupees. The engineering and construction firm said its subsidiary won a contract worth 12.7 billion rupees for construction work in Singapore.

* Abrasives maker Carborundum Universal Ltd (CRBR.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) extended gains after said it sold off land and a manufacturing facility near southern city of Chennai for 580 million rupees. Shares in the company were up 9 percent at 174.50 rupees.

* Parle Software Ltd (PRLE.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) rose by its daily maximum limit of 10 percent to a year's high of 1,817 rupees after its board recommended a three-for-one bonus share issue.

* Blue Star Ltd (BLUS.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) extended gains on low volumes after the air conditioners maker said its board will meet on Dec. 5 to consider a proposal to buy a business. The shares are trading at 454 rupees, up 3.2 percent on 4,266 shares.

* State Bank of India (SBI.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) jumped nearly 4 percent after India's cabinet approved a rights issue to raise 100 billion rupees. The shares have pared gains to 2,315.50 rupees, up 2 percent. (10:07 a.m.)

STOCKS THAT MOVED:

* Shaw Wallace & Co Ltd rose 1.05 percent to 409.60 rupees after its board approved merging the liquor firm with United Spirits Ltd, another company in the UB Group. United will allot four shares for every 17 Shaw Wallace shares.

* ABG Shipyard Ltd gained 8.3 percent to 888.55 rupees, after its board approved raising funds through an issue of equity shares to qualified institutional buyers and convertible warrants to the promoters.

* Sical Logistics Ltd rose 5 percent to 238.50 rupees after the Foreign Investment Promotion Board approved a $26 million investment by Old Lane Mauritius IV Ltd, into its new unit, Sical Infra Assets Ltd.

* Hindustan Oil Exploration, Development Credit Bank and KPIT Cummins Infosystems ended 17-20 percent higher after the National Stock Exchange added them to the derivatives trading list from Nov. 30. The exchange added a total of 15 companies to the list. All the firms in the list rose.

* Videocon Industries Ltd ended 2.6 percent higher at 399.10 rupees, having risen as much as 9.8 percent during the day, after a block deal was struck for 1.5 million shares, or about 0.7 percent of its equity, at 417 rupees.

* Ambalal Sarabhai Enterprises Ltd was up 5 percent, its daily limit, at 36.90 rupees after the drug maker said it sold land to DLF Retail Developers Ltd for 511.4 million rupees.

STOCKS THAT MOVED

* Debutant Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd closed at 961.70 rupees, after opening at 1,100 rupees or 2.5 times its offer price of 440 rupees.

* No. 2 bus and truck maker Ashok Leyland Ltd raced 16.7 percent to 47.65 rupees on rumours of a share buyback offer, traders said. A company official told a TV channel that foreign fund interest was probably driving the stock.

* Detergent maker Nirma Ltd jumped 9 percent to 224.10 rupees after it said it would buy U.S.-based soda ash maker, Searless Valley Minerals Operations Inc and Searless Valley Minerals Inc.

Indian shares rise 2 pct, Reliance rallies
STOCKS THAT MOVED Mon Nov 26, 2007

* Shares in Tata Steel Ltd rose 3.5 percent to 849 rupees and India's top aluminium producer Hindalco Industries Ltd gained 3.3 percent to 194.30 rupees on rising commodity prices, traders said.

* Hexaware Technologies Ltd fell 17 percent to 73.70 rupees, after its chief said the company saw unauthorised forex deals by an official impacting profit in the current quarter.

* Alcoholic beverage maker Empee Distilleries ended at 317.90 rupees, 20.5 percent below its issue price of 400 rupees after debuting at a premium of 10 percent. The stock touched a low of 301 rupees during the day.
