STOCKS THAT MOVED
* Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd (RANB.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) fell 2.8 percent to
411.7 rupees after the drugmaker said it was recalling 600mg and 800mg tablets of its gabapentin drug from the U.S. retail market

* Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PHIL.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) rose 2.2 percent to 215.90 rupees after an official said the firm would invest 5 billion rupees to boost capacity by 60 percent, over the next
16 months.

* SKF India Ltd (SKFB.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) closed 3.5 percent up at 414 rupees after a top official said the bearings maker expects to double sales over the next four years and would invest 4.2
billion rupees in new plants for automotive and industrial products.

* Godrej Consumer Products Ltd closed 5.6 percent up at 128.95 rupees after it said the board would meet on Nov. 23 to consider a rights share issue.

* MindTree Consulting Ltd ended nearly 1 percent up at 444.35 rupees after the software firm said it had bought TES-PV Electronic Solutions Pvt Ltd for $6.55 million in an all-cash deal.

* Electronic components maker Shetron Ltd was up 6.09 percent at 71.45 rupees after its board approved acquiring Belgian firm Shetron Sobemi Europe N.V., and merging paper packaging products maker Fibre Foils with itself.

* Top mobile operator Bharti Airtel gained 3.2 percent to 859.65 rupees. Bharti boss Sunil Mittal said on Wednesday that margins should not be hit by a government plan for number portability, that would allow subscribers to retain the same number even if they switch operator.Separately, an industry body said Bharti added 2.03 million mobile users in October, taking the total to 50.9 million.

* Hindalco Industries gained 7 percent to 217.65 rupees, its highest close in 1-½ years. A spokeswoman for Aditya Birla Group, Hindalco's parent, said the company raised prices of primary aluminium by 2,000 rupees ($51) a tonne.

* DLF Ltd gained 2.4 percent to 926.70 rupees on reports the real estate firm is buying Singapore-based luxury chain Amanresorts for around $250 million.

Banking stocks such as ICICI Bank rose 2.6 percent to 1,176.15 rupees, reversing a fall in early trade, while smaller rival HDFC Bank gained 7 percent to 1,578.50 rupees.
Jindal Stainless in JV with 3 firms for coal mining. Shares in Jindal Stainless ended 3.9 percent higher at 164.80 rupees in the Mumbai market.

* Shares in Reliance Communications rose 1.8 percent to 707.45 rupees as analysts said it could benefit from a government plan to allow mobile users to retain the same number when they change networks or cities.The number portability plan could enable Reliance, which mainly runs on the CDMA-platform, to grab some of the high-end post-paid subscribers of GSM incumbents as it expands into the popular GSM-based services, JPMorgan said in a research note.

* Top mobile firm Bharti Airtel, a GSM-based player, pared early gains and ended flat at 833.10 rupees. Analysts view the number portability plan could increase its capital spending to improve services and retain subscribers.

* Private power producer Reliance Energy Ltd rose 1.9 percent to 1,853.80 rupees. It said the government had allocated two coal blocks to the company and other firms in the eastern state of Orissa.

* Steel maker Ispat Industries Ltd hit a life high of 39.85 rupees before closing 8.2 percent up at 38.95 rupees after 4.44 million shares, or 0.36 percent of the equity, changed hands on the BSE in block deals at between 36.55-38.20 rupees each.

* Suryachakra Power Corp Ltd rose nearly 20 percent to a new high of 33.45 rupees after it tied up with state-run China Guodian Corp for a proposed 1,200 megawatt coal-based project in India. It also tied up coal supplies with Indonesia's Central Korporindo International Tbk for steam coal.
